Natural childbirth and breastfeeding help for your best experience!

Are you interested in having a natural childbirth experience and receiving timely, professional breastfeeding help for your nursing-related questions and problems? Not sure whether that's what you want, or how to achieve it? Consider using doula services!

You, too, can improve your chances of a good birth experience!

I'm a doula and the mother of two lovely little girls! I was once where you are now - pregnant for the first time and wondering what the best course was to take for childbirth. I wondered whether I should have an elective C-section to avoid the pain of labor. I wondered whether to induce labor when I passed my due date. I meticulously researched all my pain relief options - and used them all!

... and I ended up having an awful first birth experience.

You bet I tried to do something different for my second birth! For one, I hired a doula. But the main thing I did was to change my own thinking about birth. I can show you how - you don't even have to go through the first bad experience, like I did.

Giving birth, twice, was such a life altering journey, it led me to pursue doula certification and change career paths. I now make a living providing mothers with information during their pregnancies, support during labor, and breastfeeding help afterwards.

Who are doulas and what do they do?

Natural childbirth and breastfeeding are wondrous, amazing and awe-inspiring experiences - and may also seem a little bit daunting, whether you're a first-time mom or mom to many. Every baby is unique and will present his or her mom with a new set of challenges!

Back in the day, when humans used to live in smaller societies, young girls grew up watching members of their group go through pregnancy, give birth and breastfeed their babies. Natural childbirth and breastfeeding were the norm, and most moms and babies thrived on these experiences. By the time these girls were old enough to have their own babies, they had had plenty of experience and exposure to what a normal, healthy pregnancy looked like, they had seen first hand how women coped natually with the pain of labor, and they watched as newborns and their mamas learned how to breastfeed. And if natural childbirth or breastfeeding help was needed, the "wise women" of the group, those who had been there and done that already, were on hand to step in and provide hands-on assistance. No woman was left alone to try to figure these things out for herself, with no experience and no help.

These days, when we live in isolated, nuclear family units, we do not have the benefit of the group experience and we do not have the wise women there to offer natural childbirth or breastfeeding help. If this is your first baby, it is actually possible you've never seen or handled a newborn before! You almost certainly have never witnessed a natural childbirth in person! And you may look in vain for breastfeeding help from your mother or friends, if they mostly formula-fed. So what can you do?

This is the gap that doulas try to bridge.

How can a doula help you?

Are you feeling bewildered and confused by the challenges of expecting your baby, going through labor or breastfeeding your child? Do questions pop up everywhere that your doctor doesn't have time to answer and the information you find is all conflicting?

A doula can help.

She is a woman who is knowledgeable about childbirth, who can provide you with the information you need to make the best decisions for you and your family. She can also provide hands-on assistance during labor, offering natural solutions and suggestions to help you cope with the pain of labor. Having a doula reduces the chances of having unnecessary interventions, shortens labor, and increases women's feelings of satisfaction with their birth experience! Remember, on your baby's birthday, a new mother is also born! Make that a nice birth, too!

Doulas can also provide you with breastfeeding help and tips, which greatly increases your chances of having a successful and enjoyable breastfeeding relationship! Breastfeeding in the first few weeks is hard work and takes a lot of commitment! It only looks simple, but is actually a skill that both you and your new baby need to learn.

A doula can help you learn it.

A doula is basically your own personal "wise woman." She's there to help you every step of the way, offering emotional, physical, and informational support.
